It is used for surgical implants, orthopedic devices, marine fasteners, and airframe components where the strength of CP titanium is sufficient and the higher cost of Ti-6Al-4V is not justified.

When should I choose Grade 4 over Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V)?
Choose Grade 4 when: (1) maximum corrosion resistance is required (CP grades have better corrosion resistance than Grade 5); (2) forming is required (Grade 4 is more formable than Grade 5); (3) biocompatibility is critical and vanadium content is undesirable (some medical applications). The strength penalty vs Grade 5 is ~40%.
