ASTM A105 is the standard specification for carbon steel forgings for piping applications—flanges, fittings, valves, and pressure-containing parts for ambient and high-temperature service up to 425°C (800°F). Forgings are produced from killed steel with 0.35% max carbon and are supplied in the normalized or normalized-and-tempered condition. Every forging is hydrostatically tested per ASME B16.5/B16.11 requirements. A105 is compatible with A53, A106, and API 5L piping systems, making it the default flange and fitting material for petrochemical, power generation, and process piping.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can A105 be used for low-temperature service?
Standard A105 is not impact-tested and is limited to -29°C (-20°F) minimum design metal temperature per ASME B31.3. For lower temperatures, specify A350 LF2 (impact-tested carbon steel forgings for -46°C service) or A182 F304/F316 (stainless steel forgings for cryogenic service).
