Zinc Alloy Materials

Zinc alloys are primarily used for hot-chamber die casting—the fastest metal casting process with cycle times as low as 1–2 seconds. Zamak 3 (Zn-4Al) is the standard grade for automotive hardware, plumbing fittings, and electronic connectors, offering excellent castability, dimensional stability (±0.05 mm), and electroplatability. ZA-27 (Zn-27Al) provides the highest strength among zinc foundry alloys (365 MPa yield) and serves as a bearing bronze substitute. The primary limitation is aging embrittlement from intergranular corrosion—high-purity (99.99%) zinc feedstock is essential.
